The plate, and the ring with the tusk running along the channel.
Three Layers Deep
The band is black damascus. Wood is inlaid into it. A second channel is cut into that wood, and narwhal tusk goes into that.
Each layer is set into the one before it, so what you are looking at on the face of the ring is three materials deep rather than three materials side by side.
Narwhal tusk
Set into a channel cut inside the wood.
Three materials
Nothing in it is decoration.
Black Damascus
The band
Folded steel taken dark and etched, so the layers read pale against near black. It is the outer structure and the darkest thing in the ring.
Natural Wood
The first inlay
Set into the damascus and running the full way round. The second channel is cut into this, which is what makes the tusk sit below the surface rather than on it.
Narwhal Tusk
The second inlay
Small pieces laid into the channel inside the wood and finished flush. Pale, irregular, and no two of them the same shape.
In motion
Three layers, turning.
The damascus, the wood set into it, and the tusk set into that. Turning the ring is the only way to see that the layers really are stacked rather than laid side by side.
Yours
Rare material, built to be worn.
If you have something unusual and you want it in a ring, bring it. I will tell you honestly whether it can be set and whether it will last.
